WHERE IT BEGAN-

Forty nine years ago, our founder, Russell McCall, began his business by opening a single cheese and wine shop in the Buckhead area of Atlanta specializing in imported and domestic cheeses, wine, and fine foods. His love for the world's finest food continues to inspire Gourmet Foods International associates to pursue excellence in the specialty food business. We are very proud of our 49 year history in the specialty food industry.
Our mission is to provide our customers with the freshest and finest specialty food products in perfect condition. We believe remarkable specialty food programs feature top quality products, offered in an extraordinary freshness and variety. We take special interest small producers, and work directly with them so we can offer hand-crafted, healthy, and environmentally conscientious products.

    Open Cheese manufacturing facility in our Atlanta distribution center and begin cut and wrap program

    Gourmet Foods International prints first edition of catalog

    GFI host first Institut du Fromage training event in Atlanta.

    Atlanta Foods International changes name to Gourmet Foods International to align with other divisions.

Cut and Wrap

Cut and Wrap

We offer the most comprehensive variety of pre-cut cheeses from around the world. All pieces are cut in our SQF Level 2000 Certified/HACCP regulated facility. Our cut and wrap program offers three wrapping options: L-seal, cryovac and custom hand-wrapped. Pieces come labeled and dated to help manage inventory.
Spice Room

Spice Room

We have a custom spice room in our facility in Atlanta to blend and package spices around the clock. Our Global Master Chef, Helmut Holzer selects superb quality spices and creates custom blends. All spices used in our blends are Kosher and all natural. They are triple sifted and stressed, free of MSG, HVP and contain no flowing agents.

With our commitment to great American cheese and cheesemakers, we established our invaluable cheese training center in 2008. Our curriculum and courses are varied as demonstrated by our 2-3 Fall and Spring sessions. Our program began in Atlanta and we have expanded it to Florida, New Jersey and Denver locations.

Sustainability

We are committed to several programs to help and sustain the environment. These programs include:
  • Bio-diesel fuel in our trucks in Atlanta and Denver.
  • All warehouse lighting in our facilities are low voltage/high candle output.
  • Created an acre of greenspace on our Atlanta campus

CCP Staff

Certified Cheese Professional Exam was established by The American Cheese Society to encourage high standards of comprehensive cheese knowledge and service for professional in all areas of the industry. Testing encompasses a broad range of topics including raw ingredients, the cheese making process, storing and handling cheese, selecting distributors, marketing and communicating about cheese, nutrition, regulation and standards. We are very proud that 20 of our team members are Certified Cheese Professionals.

We have been a proud member of The American Cheese Society (ACS) since 1984, its second year existence. Russell McCall, our founder, served as Chairman of the Judging Competition for several years in the 80's. Currently Dick Roe, Vice President of Administration at GFI is the American Cheese Society President.
Logistics

Logistics

All deliveries are made by GFI employees drivers on delivery routes with regular weekly schedules, reducing lead times, and enabling faster order check-in. Owning and operating our own fleet allows at us to guarantee proper temperature control of all products from arrival in our warehouse to arrival at your door. Other logistical features include:
  • Drivers have an average of 10 years experience with GFI.
  • We track the temperature of our trailers online through Thermo King tracking system
  • Smart-Route creates real time tracking for ETA of deliveries.
SQF Certification

SQF Certification

SQF is a HACCP-based food safety program recognized by retailers and foodservice providers around the world who require a rigorous, credible food safety management system. We received our SQF Level 2 certification in January 2014. We have trained and empowered our team members to challenge the status quo and improve in all areas of their daily responsibilities. We will continue to expand and refine our food safety programs each year.
